About this product

Authentic Kashmiri Kehwa — the centuries-old traditional green tea of Kashmir, blended the way it has been made in Kashmiri homes for generations. Our kehwa combines premium Kangra green tea leaves with whole green cardamom, cinnamon bark, crushed almonds, and a few precious threads of our own Mongra saffron — all in the right proportions for a balanced, aromatic cup.

Kehwa is more than tea in Kashmir. It is hospitality, warmth, and ritual. Served to guests, sipped slowly on winter afternoons, and believed to aid digestion and circulation. Our blend is pre-mixed and measured — one teaspoon per cup, steeped for 3 minutes, and served without milk (traditionally with a single crushed almond floating on top).

What makes our kehwa different: we use whole spices, not powdered — cardamom pods, cinnamon bark pieces, and visible saffron threads that bloom in hot water. No artificial flavouring, no tea dust, no shortcuts. Just the same blend a Kashmiri grandmother would prepare.

How to brew: add 1 heaped teaspoon to a cup of boiling water (80-90°C, not rolling boil). Cover and steep for 3-4 minutes. Strain into a cup, add a drop of honey if desired, and sip slowly. Optional: float a crushed almond and a single saffron thread on top before serving.

Frequently asked questions

What is Kashmiri Kehwa and how is it different from regular green tea?

Kehwa is the traditional green tea of Kashmir, brewed with whole spices — green cardamom, cinnamon bark, crushed almonds, and saffron — not just tea leaves. It is lighter, more aromatic, and spiced differently than chai. It is served without milk, often with a single crushed almond and saffron thread floating on top. It is central to Kashmiri hospitality and winter culture.

How do I brew authentic Kashmiri Kehwa?

Add 1 heaped teaspoon of our kehwa blend to a cup of hot water (80-90°C, just off the boil — boiling water makes green tea bitter). Cover and steep for 3-4 minutes. Strain into a cup. Add a drop of honey if desired. Float a crushed almond and a single saffron thread on top before serving. Never add milk — kehwa is meant to be clear and aromatic.

Does Kashmiri Kehwa have caffeine?

Yes — kehwa is made with green tea leaves, which naturally contain caffeine (about 25-35mg per cup, compared to 95mg in coffee). The caffeine is mild and balanced by the calming effect of cardamom and saffron. It is traditionally drunk throughout the day in Kashmir, including after dinner.

How many cups does a 500g pack of kehwa make?

One heaped teaspoon (approximately 5g) makes one cup. A 500g pack makes roughly 100 cups — about 3 months of daily kehwa. A 1kg pack makes about 200 cups. Store the pack sealed and away from moisture to preserve the whole spices and saffron threads.
