Demand for shilajit has grown faster than the supply chain built to verify it, and the result is a market where a large share of what sells online is not real resin at all. This page explains what genuine Himalayan shilajit actually is, the tests that expose a fake before you swallow it, and exactly what you get when you buy Himalayan shilajit online from us.
Why buying shilajit online is riskier than it looks
Independent testing and market reporting in India have repeatedly found that a large share of what is sold online as “shilajit” contains little to no genuine resin — boiled jaggery syrup, shoe polish, and dyed pastes are the substitutes testers keep finding. None of that is obvious from a product photo. It only becomes obvious once you know what to test for, which is why we would rather explain the tests than just ask you to trust a label.
What genuine Himalayan shilajit actually is
Shilajit is a tar-like mineral resin that seeps from high-altitude Himalayan rock faces in the summer heat, formed over centuries from compressed plant matter and minerals. Raw resin comes off the rock mixed with grit and plant debris — purification dissolves, filters and concentrates it into the glossy, uniform resin that is safe to consume. The purification and screening are the actual product; unbranded “raw rock” shilajit should never be consumed directly.
The purity tests before you buy
- Warmth: real resin softens between warm fingers; fakes stay hard or feel greasy.
- Dissolve: a rice-grain portion in warm water should fully dissolve into a clear golden-brown liquid — no grit, no cloudy sludge.
- Taste: intensely bitter and earthy. Any sweetness means jaggery, not shilajit.
- Flame: genuine resin chars and bubbles like tree resin; it does not melt like sugar syrup.

How we source and purify ours
Our Himalayan shilajit resin is purified and sealed at source in a 20g jar, with the same direct, name-the-origin discipline we apply to our Pampore saffron. We are a food and wellness business, not a pharmaceutical one — which is also why we frame shilajit honestly, in line with what FSSAI expects: a traditional tonic with promising early research, not a medicine with guaranteed effects.
How much shilajit to take, and how
Dissolve a rice-grain to pea-sized portion — roughly 300–500mg — in warm (not boiling) water or milk, once daily, traditionally in the morning on a relatively empty stomach. Start small and stay consistent for several weeks; it is a tonic, not a stimulant, and a 20g jar lasts six to eight weeks at this rate. Full dosage notes and who should be cautious (pregnancy, gout, iron-overload conditions, or blood-pressure/diabetes medication — check with a doctor first) are covered in the shilajit guide.
What genuine shilajit actually costs
Purified resin costs more to produce than a jaggery-and-dye fake, and the price should reflect that. Our sealed 20g jar is ₹600 — treat a dramatically cheaper “pure Himalayan shilajit” listing as a signal to run the dissolve test before you trust it, not as a bargain.
