Eid gifts — saffron and dry fruits, priced honestly
Saffron is not a decorative gift at Eid, it is an ingredient people are about to use: sheer khurma and phirni both want it, and a household cooking for a full table gets through more of it in a week than in the rest of the year. A 5 g jar at ₹1,800 covers a season of cooking and reads as a serious gift; a 1 g jar at ₹360 is the everyday version. What is actually given at Eid
Eid gifting is more kitchen-facing than Diwali gifting. What comes through the door tends to be used within days, not put on a shelf, which changes what a good gift is: quantity and quality matter more than presentation.
Saffron, dates, dry fruits and something sweet are the core. Saffron in particular has a specific job — sheer khurma is milk, vermicelli, dates and dry fruits, and the saffron is what carries the colour and the aroma across the whole pot. A household making it for twenty people needs more than a pinch.
For elders, saffron and honey together are the traditional pairing and hold up well as a gift. For a household with children, dry fruits get eaten and saffron gets cooked with, so a mixed box works harder than a single jar.

How far ahead to order
Ten days to two weeks before Eid, and do not wait for the moon sighting to confirm the date. The date moves by a day; the courier network's Eid week does not.
Eid al-Fitr falls in March in 2026 and Eid al-Adha in late May. Neither is near the saffron harvest, so what you receive is from the previous autumn's crop — which is normal, keeps well, and is what every seller has at that point in the year. We say so rather than implying otherwise.
What arrives fresh
Both Eids in 2026 fall months after the October harvest, so saffron bought for either is from the previous autumn's crop. That is not a problem — properly sealed and kept from light, Grade I saffron holds its colour and aroma well beyond two years — but it is the honest answer, and any seller claiming a March jar is freshly harvested is describing something that has not happened.

- A generous pinch, around fifteen to twenty threads, steeped in two tablespoons of warm milk for ten minutes before it goes into the pot. For a large batch feeding twenty, closer to a quarter of a gram. A 1 g jar is several occasions; a 5 g jar is a season.
- What is a good Eid gift for a family?
- A 5 g saffron jar and a kilogram of almonds or walnut kernels. Both get used rather than stored, which is what distinguishes a good Eid gift from a good display. For an older relative who cooks less, saffron honey is the better call.
- When should I order Eid gifts?
- Ten days to two weeks before, and do not wait for the moon sighting. The date can move by a day but courier congestion in the week before Eid does not, and a parcel posted three days out will not arrive in time.
- Is saffron bought at Eid from the new harvest?
- No, and no honest seller's is. Kashmiri saffron is harvested in late October and early November. Eid al-Fitr in 2026 is in March, so what you buy is from the previous autumn — which stores well for over two years when it is sealed and kept dark.
- Which saffron is best for sheer khurma and phirni?

Colour, aroma and flavour come from crocin, safranal and picrocrocin, and both jars are the same all-red Mongra sorted to the same grade. What separates them is thread length, which is a look. In a pot of milk, nobody can tell.
